Hi ๐Ÿ‘‹ I'm Agene O. Sunday , a Frontend Web Developer and a member of Facebook Developer Circles Lokoja community.

The 11th of May 2020 signaled the beginning of an amazing journey tagged #DevCLokoja7WeeksOfCode, a journey that sought to :

  1. Help the community members improve their programming skills as programmers and get newbies excited and introduced to programming.
  2. Equip the community members with adequate and well curated learning resources spanning mobile development, machine learning/data science, ui/ux, technical writing and cloud computing.
  3. Help the members improve her cooperation and bonding as a community.

As a participant of the the #DevCLokoja7WeeksOfCode challenge, I've therefore written this recap to highlight the following:

  1. Why I joined the challenge
  2. The effectiveness of the challenge
  3. How the challenge went and things I learnt
  4. The things I built
  5. What next
  6. Conclusion

Let's get to the recap in details:

Why I joined the challenge.

"There is no power for change greater than a community discovering what it cares about." โ€“ Margaret J

I had joined the challenge primarily to help strengthen my hands on coding experience , really wanted to get away from the tutorial hell and start building stuffs , so I wanted to leverage the power of community. The following are the specific SMART objectives I had in mind at the beginning of the journey:

  1. Learn bootstrap 4 following CodeCademy curriculum
  2. Write 2 blog post on bootstrap 4
  3. Build a full fledged website adopting bootstrap 4 knowledge

The effectiveness of the challenge

The 7 weeks journey to being world class was highly effective , as it helped me :

  • Improve my coding skills
  • To have access to more learning resources
  • Increase my accountability and led to a massive boost of my productivity.
  • Landed a certificate on bootstrap 4 from Codecademy

How it went and the things I learnt

The 7 weeks of code was truly an amazing coding challenge that spurred my content writing skills and further improved my frontend Web development skills , specifically I learnt the following in between:

  1. Interpreting and coding a mockup design
  2. How to prototype using bootstrap 4
  3. Ultra learning technique for rapid learning.
  4. Hosting on Netlify from GitHub
  5. Community bonding and collaboration.

The things I built

If you had read my recap from the start you should have probably seen my number 3 SMART objective for the #devClokoja7weeksofcode , it won't be a bad idea if you scroll back up to go check the SMART objectives. Did you ๐Ÿ˜Š ?

Okey, the SMART objective number 3 was to be able to build a fully mobile responsive website for the period. And viola!!! I aced that objective and more, during the course of the challenge i was able to build the following:

  • Built and hosted a full fledged mobile responsive film festival website where users can pre-register for a movie event. ๐Ÿ‘‡๐Ÿ‘‡

In addition to the websites built , I also wrote the two blog post as intended in my SMART objectives for the #devClokoja7weeksofcode.

What next ?

Oh my it's been an incredible 7 weeks journey , obviously what's next is to learn, build ,write , repeat ๐Ÿ˜.

Conclusion

In this recap of #devClokoja7weeksofcode , I have been able to fully itemize why I took the challenge , it's effectiveness , what I learnt and things I was able to build.

In conclusion it was an amazing journey that I really can't wait for the next edition. Till next time just remember:๐Ÿ‘‡
